
Dessie Love-Blake is one of the most in-demand drag queens in the country. As one Houston club owner recently stated, “A true perfectionist in all aspects of his multiple shows and performances, everything he touches turns to gold. He is a top-notch showgirl!” Beginning as a casual performer at charity events, Dessie quickly gained attention and was awarded the “Miss EJ’s” title during the 2012 Pride season. Dessie’s star power has rapidly increased and most recently was first runner up in the 2019 Miss Gay America Pageant.
Dessie placed third in Miss Gay America 2018 and reigned as Miss Gay Northeast America in 2017. Dessie has been awarded “Best Drag Queen” and “Best Pageant Queen” at the 2018 Houston Drag Awards, OutSmart Magazine’s “Most Divine Drag Queen” in 2016, was crowned Miss Gay Texas America in 2014, Miss Gay Galveston America 2014 and Miss Gay HOUSTON USofA Newcomer in 2013. Dessie was also featured in the pilot episode of HBO’s Mamma Dallas, created by Mike White.
In addition to national competitions, Dessie performs five nights a week in the Houston and Galveston areas. Dessie has hosted 17 seasons of the wildly popular “Dessie’s Drag Race” (also produced by her husband). Dessie has been mentored by drag icons including LaWanda Jackson and Lana Blake. Dessie’s repertoire includes Janis Joplin, Toni Tenille Crystal Gayle, Pink, Taylor Swift, Joan Jett Pat Benatar, Lucille Ball, Lady Gaga, and Stevie Nicks. Dessie resides in Houston with her husband Clay.
